About Jo

I come from a background in graphic design and teaching. I started working with polymer clay as a student on a jewellery making course in 2010 and it was a ‘light bulb’ moment for me! I loved the wealth of possibilities the material offered to combine pattern, colour and shape into 3D jewellery design and I have worked with it almost every day, ever since.

My work focusses on pattern and colour. I’m often inspired by a printed image, a scrap of fabric or wallpaper or abstract patterns and shapes in the environment. I’ll start with sketches, mix colour recipes and begin making. I may introduce other media into a design - pastels, paints, mica powders, stencils and silk screens for example, can all play a part. Other times, I may choose to concentrate solely on shape and surface relief. Hopefully, the initial idea will come together; other times, something completely unexpected will emerge.

I am lucky enough to have a studio in the garden and work here most days. Being a one-woman-business is a full-time job as I do everything from designing, making, finishing, polishing, packing, administering the website, marketing and exhibiting and I absolutely love it! I also teach so if you’re interested in learning how to work with polymer or silver clay, there’s more info here.
